Manifesto

Generative AI is an unavoidable reality across science, art, and everyday life. Large language models and other AI tools have clear purposes and can significantly improve productivity. At Flux & Void Labs, our engineering team employs generative AI daily in ways that enhance both the efficiency and quality of our work, provided it is used carefully and deliberately.Despite the practical benefits of AI in engineering and technical domains, we firmly believe that generative AI has no place in the creation of art. Art exists to convey the unique expression of an individual or collective, with all its imperfections and personal nuances intact. Using AI to generate complete works, or even significant portions, transforms art into a mass-produced product and undermines its fundamental purpose. We acknowledge that the line between acceptable AI use and artistic interference is not always clear. Tools such as AI-assisted stem separation can serve as practical aid for artists and music producers, helping them realize their vision more efficiently.
Conversely, AI mastering presents both opportunities and risks: it lowers the barrier to technical processes, yet threatens the livelihoods of professionals who have dedicated years to mastering their craft. Unlike automated systems, human mastering engineers bring an individual artistic sensibility and creative judgment to each project, resulting in work shaped by experience rather than algorithms.
We explicitly oppose the use of AI to generate melodies, chord progressions, or other core creative components. While experimenting with AI technology is valid, the resulting music is neither truly original nor the product of the artist’s own lived experience. All music is, to some extent, shaped by past influences; however, AI-generated music is derivative in a fundamentally different way. It’s produced through statistical recombination of vast datasets built from uncredited and uncompensated human work. The prevalence of generative music further exacerbates the challenges facing independent artists, flooding the market with polished yet soulless tracks that can overshadow genuine, human-made work. Our commitment is to uphold the integrity of artistic expression. We support the thoughtful use of AI as a tool to assist artists, but we reject its use as a substitute for human creativity. Independent art must remain a reflection of human experience, not a byproduct of algorithmic aggregation.

Mission

Flux & Void Records exists to support small and independent artists without exploitation. We promote independent music through curated playlists, internet radio plays, and label releases (more below), always prioritizing transparency, fairness, and artist ownership.Label Philosophy & Artist RightsArtists who join our movement are free to distribute their own music through their respective distributors. We do not require exclusivity, take ownership of your work, or take any percentage of your revenue. While we may explore traditional label releases in the future, with royalty sharing in exchange for real financial investment, we do not do so unless it genuinely benefits the artist. We currently can’t offer any meaningful financial investments in our artists, so there is no justification for us taking percentages of your streaming revenue.Playlisting & Anti-Botting PolicyWe’ll do our best to put you in our appropriate playlists based on genre, mood, etc. Some playlists may only have artists released under our label, while others will have other independent artists. In any case, we’ll do our best to find a spot for your music.
We are firmly against artificial growth. We actively monitor our playlists for botting and report malicious activity when detected to help protect artists from takedowns.
Submissions & Artistic GrowthAll artist submissions are carefully and thoroughly listened to by our team. Not every track will be selected for radio play or playlisting, but a rejection is never a rejection of the artist or their place in our community. Music quality is often shaped by skills in recording, writing, production, and arrangement—skills that can be learned and improved over time. We believe in growth through knowledge and craft, not shortcuts. AI is not the path we support.Internet RadioOur internet radio station exclusively plays independent artists. While it isn’t a promise of massive exposure, it is free and honest promotion.
Our radio station is currently in development. We don't have an ETA but feel free to apply any of your songs.
